Founders celebrate JRF’s 35th with a scholarship
On July 9, 1976, JRF was founded by five amazing women who are still great supporters of the organization. Next year will be JRF's 35th birthday and in celebration, they are forming a Giving Circle to provide an award for one of the strong, motivated women who will be selected in 2011.
Sue Bailey, Gail Dendy, Margaret Holt, Heather Kleiner and Reita Rivers are leading the way for others nationwide. They are showing those who can't imagine raising the $2,500 for a scholarship by themselves, that when you join together, lives can be changed.
Without the Founding Mothers, JRF would not exist today. Our 35th birthday is really a celebration of them, along with the multitude of other volunteers, donors, and friends, who have supported JRF through the years. We came together to make a difference, and we have!
Because of your help, lives nationwide have radically changed; 639 women have now received the JRF scholarship. Women who struggled to provide for their families are now nurses, teachers, chefs, and business owners who are more financially stable and giving back to their communities.
"My nursing career promises wide open horizons — it is the promise of being empowered and finally able to give back to others!” —2010 scholar Patricia

Where your money goes
We recently got our audit back and we’re excited to share our expense breakdown for 2009.
91.6% was for program expenses
6.2% for management
2.2% for fundraising
Almost 92% of our expenses were directly related to providing scholarships and supporting the women who received them.
The management expense includes salaries and powering the office.
And, only 2.2% for fundraising!
We want you to know that our expenses are in line with our mission to empower women through education. Your investment is being used to impact more lives.

Battelle funds two awards
Executive Director, Sue Lawrence, recently visited the Atlanta branch of Battelle Memorial Institute to pick up their generous donation of two scholarships. Battelle funded two awards in 2009 as well.
The 2010 Battelle scholars are Angie and Devorah. They are both pursuing bachelor’s degrees, Angie in nursing and Devorah in computer systems engineering.
Thank you to all of our scholarship donors for empowering women to change their lives through education.
