Scholar Spotlight - Leonida
Posted on Jul 9, 2010 by JRF
One of our 2010 Scholars, Leonida, recently expressed her gratitude to JRF for the Edith Memorial Award. Leonida is pursuing her Nursing degree full time while simultaneously working and caring for her daughters.
She says, “It’s not easy for me to attend school, take care of my family, and to go to work at the same time while endeavoring to maintain good grades. I explain to them that what I am doing now is not only for me, but also for them.”
After working in a nursing home for 13 years, Leonida realized that serving and caring for others is what she loves to do. By December 2010, her program for a license in Practical Nursing will be complete.
Like all of our scholars, Leonida has an ambitious and determined attitude. She has turned many difficult situations in her life into motivation to improve her future, as well as her children’s futures. She is so grateful that JRF is helping her reach her goals.
“Through the generosity of the the people in the community, including Jeannette Rankin Women’s Scholarship Fund, I am able to pursue my life’s ambition which is to become a Registered Nurse. Without the generous contributions from good-hearted people in the community, I could not have arrived at where I am today.”
We are so proud of Leonida and all of our 2010 Scholars for getting one step closer to achieving their dreams through higher education.
