Founders celebrate JRF's 35th with a scholarship
Posted on Dec 1, 2010 by JRF
On July 9, 1976, JRF was founded by five amazing women who are still great supporters of the organization. Next year will be JRF’s 35th birthday and in celebration, they are forming a Giving Circle to provide an award for one of the strong, motivated women who will be selected in 2011.
Sue Bailey, Gail Dendy, Margaret Holt, Heather Kleiner and Reita Rivers are leading the way for others nationwide. They are showing those who can’t imagine raising the $2,500 for a scholarship by themselves, that when you join together, lives can be changed.
Without the Founding Mothers, JRF would not exist today. Our 35th birthday is really a celebration of them, along with the multitude of other volunteers, donors, and friends, who have supported JRF through the years. We came together to make a difference, and we have!
Because of your help, lives nationwide have radically changed; 639 women have now received the JRF scholarship. Women who struggled to provide for their families are now nurses, teachers, chefs, and business owners who are more financially stable and giving back to their communities.
“My nursing career promises wide open horizons — it is the promise of being empowered and finally able to give back to others!” —2010 scholar Patricia
