Jun 25, 2007 by Maryann Huynh
Paul Chambers, Northeast Georgia District Manager of AT&T, announced that AT&T is making a gift of $10,000 to the Jeannette Rankin Foundation (JRF). The announcement of the gift was made public at JRF’s 31st Annual Dinner held on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at The Classic Center.
JRF’s Annual Dinner event is the organization’s largest fundraiser attended by community and business leaders from across Georgia, including this year’s keynote speaker Dr. Betty Siegel, President Emeritus of Kennesaw State University.
Highlights of the 2007 Annual Dinner also included the attendance of JRF Scholars as well as the raffling of a diamond bangle bracelet donated by JWR Jewelers valued at $4,295.
The Jeannette Rankin Foundation (JRF) is a non-profit organization that awards scholarships to low-income women, ages 35 and older, who are pursuing a vocational or undergraduate college education. In 2007, JRF will award scholarships of $2,000 each to 80 women. Scholarship recipients have a vision of how an education will benefit themselves, their families, and their communities and are overcoming tremendous obstacles to pursue their degrees. The organization, chartered in 1976, honors the legacy of Jeannette Rankin, the first woman elected to U.S. Congress. To date, $1 million in scholarships has been awarded to over 500 low-income women across the U.S.
The generous donation given by AT&T supports the JRF scholarship program and will help pay for operating expenses. A $10,000 donation places AT&T on the National Presenting Sponsorship level with JRF
