Community colleges in crisis

“In California, with a budget cut of 8% across the board, the community colleges turned away 140,000 students last year. In Colorado, the waiting lists for nursing programs at some of the state’s community colleges have grown to as long as 3.5 years.”
More people are trying to earn college degrees to change their lives, but with budget cuts, going to school is becoming harder and harder. Not only is the cost of attending rising, but there isn’t enough room for those who apply.
Community college is a great option with lower costs, sometimes closer proximity and courses geared towards getting you in the workforce quickly. They are “gateways for millions of Americans to good jobs and a better life,” President Obama said.
So, how do we get people off the wait list and into the classroom?
