Why Donate

A donation to the Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship Fund is a sound investment in education. Our scholars are changing their lives and securing their futures through college education. Each JRF scholarship helps a woman manage her expenses It may be used to fund the ever-rising cost of tuition; it may pay for childcare while she's in class; it may pay for repairs to the family vehicle so she can commute to campus.

Breadth and Success

More than 600 women have received JRF scholarships. Over half of our scholars are the first in their families to attend college. Many are heads of their households. All are low-income, according to standards set by the U.S. Department of Labor.

JRF scholars are women who are working hard to balance family and work responsibilities with school because they recognize the importance of a college education. Although many are the first in their families to attend college, they will not be the last. They are role models to their children, the next generation, who will grow up aspiring to go to college themselves.

Our scholarships are not just monetary awards. They also provide hope and encouragement and instill confidence, which we believe contribute to our scholars’ success. JRF scholars have a proven track record. According to respondents to annual surveys, 97.2% have graduated or are still enrolled in their college programs.

Earning her degree while raising her children on a limited income was extremely challenging, but Marsha Peterson knew it would all be worth it. "It is my goal that each of my children will follow me through the doors of higher education and into the world of service, either in their small corner of the world or beyond." She hopes that her education will not only provide her with a better-paying career, but that it will serve as an example for her children to follow.
